Which Vanderpump Rules SURvers Knew About Tom Schwartz’s Proposal Plans?

Tom Schwartz finally popped the question to his longtime girlfriend Katie Maloney during Monday night's episode of Vanderpump Rules in a moment that totally caught his fiancee-to-be and her fellow SURvers by surprise.

In particular, Scheana Shay let out a squeal during the big moment, but did she really have no idea that it was about to happen? Yes and no. “I knew how it was gonna happen but not when," Scheana revealed during the Vanderpump Rules After Show (featured in the clip above). "Originally, he had a little bit more of an elaborate plan, but I knew there was gonna be the fake engagement part of it. So the second I saw that other guy get down and Schwartz stood up, I was like, ‘Oh my God. This is happening right now.’ But I didn’t know it was gonna happen at Tom [Sandoval]’s birthday. I thought it would happen somewhere else, and he didn’t let me know on that. I don’t know if he didn’t trust me because he thought I might tell Katie.”

Scheana knew about Tom Schwartz's intention to propose to Katie since he enlisted her to help him pick out an engagement ring earlier this season, but Tom Sandoval and Ariana Madix probably knew more about the details of the actual proposal by the time it happened, Scheana said. Still, Scheana said she believes Katie was completely caught off guard when Tom Schwartz got down on one knee. “You saw the day before, Tom [Sandoval]’s birthday room escape sort of thing. We got into it," Scheana said during the After Show. "So the next day at his birthday, Katie and I were just like, ‘Now we’ve got to get dressed up, go to his birthday dinner and we’re pissed off at him.’ I’m just like, ‘Why are we getting dressed up to go to this place?’ We were so angry. And then once we got there and that all happened, I’m like, ‘It all makes sense! This is why.’"

Scheana said she still wishes she had known the full details of Tom Schwartz's proposal plan so that she could have ensured Katie looked flawless from head to toe when the time came. "A girl wants to look pretty, especially if we’re filming it. Make sure she has her eyelashes, her nails, and that was the one thing if he had told me, I would not have failed as a best friend because she wanted to get her nails done that day, and I was like, ‘Girl, I do not have time to get nails done,’" Scheana said. "Had I known he was proposing that night, I would have made her get her nails done, but I didn’t know.”

However, one person who knew virtually nothing about the impending proposal was Jax Taylor, who is notorious at SUR for not being able to keep a secret. But Jax completely understands why no one told him about the big day. “Well, I kind of have a big mouth, and I’m kind of glad I didn’t know it because I loved the way I found out," Jax said during the After Show. "I was in shock, and it was actually really awesome.”

Jax admitted that if he had known about Tom Schwartz's proposal plan, he would have most likely let the cat out of the bag. “I would have told somebody. I probably would have told Scheana. I probably would’ve told Kristen [Doute]," he said. "I wouldn’t have told Katie. I would have told everybody but.”

Lisa Vanderpump, who learned about Tom Schwartz's entire proposal plan during Monday night's episode of Vanderpump Rules, crashed Jax's time on the After Show couch to say that the SUR bartender probably would've done something much worse. “You would have probably tried to shag Katie before she got the ring on her finger — if you haven’t already,” Lisa said.
