Kelly Dodd Explains Why She Didn't Attend Vicki Gunvalson's Tea Party and Those Funeral Comments

The Real Housewives of Orange County mom has a very different take on the comments than the OG.

Vicki Gunvalson's birthday party in Tuesday night's episode of The Real Housewives of Orange County was quite the affair to remember. The costumes were over-the-top, the cake was thrown, and the drama was as hot as the tea being served.

However, Kelly Dodd missed out on the festivities, and her FaceTime calls to Tamra Judge and Shannon Storms Beador caused some confusion among the ladies as to why she couldn't attend.

So Kelly clarified why she had to miss out on Vicki's birthday bash on Twitter. "I DID have plans to go to LA... which was ultimately cut short due to getting sick," she tweeted Tuesday night. "No conspiracy theory needed here ladies."

Then there was the other reason Kelly wasn't at the event. "I'm sorry, but I'm not celebrating her birthday," she told Tamra via FaceTime during the episode. "The only celebration I'm doing for her is going to her funeral."

And, well, when word got back to Vicki after her party, she was visibly upset over Kelly's comment.

Kelly later explained during The Real Housewives of Orange County Season 14 After Show that her comment wasn't meant to be taken seriously (clip above). "It was meant to be a joke," she said. "I'm not gonna be best friends with this woman. I'm not gonna pretend that she's gonna be friends with me."

Tamra and Shannon have two very different takes on Vicki's reaction to the comment, which you can view, above.

Kelly even said later on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen that her comment was actually a compliment. "No, it's sweet!" she said in Tuesday night's episode. "I'm paying homage."

Apparently, Kelly's friend and fellow WWHL guest Brandi Glanville interpreted the comment the same way. "Exactly. She's there at the end to pay her respects because that's what you do," she explained. "That's the nicest thing you could do."
