Why Sanjay Gupta Is the Real Doogie Howser

Andy Cohen reveals unbelievable factoids about beloved doctor on WWHL.

If you loved the storyline of Doogie Howser, M.D.—the late-1980s sitcom starring Neil Patrick Harris as a teenage surgeon—you'll be shocked to hear that beloved TV doctor Sanjay Gupta got in to medical school when he was 16 years old in real life! Andy Cohen reveled in that fact on last night's Watch What Happens Live and turned the doc's amazing story into a game, quizzing guest Soleil Moon Frye on whether incredible events happened to the real-life Doogie (a.k.a. Gupta) or the TV character.

So which doc used a carpenter's drill to operate on a man with a gunshot wound to his head? Gupta!

Who performed a 40-hour surgery with only one bathroom break? Gupta again!

Gupta also once performed surgery on a girl who had a chunk of concrete embedded in her skull, wrote a poem for his girlfriend and proposed in the last line, and likes to listen to Sinatra in the operating room. Unfortunately, Soleil didn't get most of these questions right, but Gupta wasn't offended.
