First things first: there is a massive Will & Grace spoiler ahead. So if you're not caught up on the adventures of Will, Grace, Karen, Jack, and all their other winsome pals, look away now!
Still with us? Then let's discuss the incredible curveball we did not see coming: our beloved Rosario Salazar, played by Shelley Morrison, is dead! Morrison, who plays Karen Walker's maid on the show, had not appeared on the new season of Will & Grace. Fans wondered where she was and seemed to get a hint on the afternoon of Thursday, November 2.
Before the jarring episode aired, Megan Mullally, who plays Karen, posted an Instagram snap of herself with Morrison, and dropped a hint that the upcoming episode would feature an update on Rosario. The photo shows the two actresses laughing and smiling, so, only happy things could lie ahead. Right?!
Well, things did not go as planned. In the November 2 episode of the comedy, viewers learn that Rosario (who never appears on screen) has passed away due to complications after surgery. Determined to give her "best friend" and "sparring partner" a proper sendoff, Karen planned a funeral inspired by a quinceañera. Then, she delivered a eulogy that merits having a whole pile of handkerchiefs on standby.
Vanity Fair reports that even a cold reading of the show had the crew in tears — and the on-set sniffles continued through the rehearsal and filming of the episode. And, fans are in the same boat. Check out some of the Internet's best reactions to the heartstring-tugging TV event, below.
The good news? Shelley Morrison, aka the real-life "Rosario," is alive and well. The actress has simply retired from the TV biz.
