You've Been Drinking Whiskey Wrong Your Whole Life
#RHOP's Ashley Darby explains why you've got to simply let it breathe.
When Ashley Darby invited her castmates out for a whiskey tasting earlier this season on The Real Housewives of Potomac, let's just say things didn't go exactly as she had hoped. None of the ladies seemed to enjoy imbibing in this spirit, especially Karen Huger, who memorably quipped, "Brown liquor ain't for me."
But perhaps they didn't enjoy their whiskey because they didn't use the proper technique. Yes, there is a right way and a wrong way to sip this drink, and thankfully we had RHOP's resident whiskey expert on hand to show us how it's done.
Ashley explained everything you need to know about drinking whiskey in the above exclusive video for The Daily Dish, from how much you should pour to making sure you have ice and water on the side so you can add both to your liking later on.
Most importantly, once you have your glass all ready, you can't just shoot it back. "When you take a sip, you want to exhale through the mouth because essentially, you're letting the alcohol breathe. People feel that burn when they drink whiskey, that's because you're not breathing it out. And you'll actually feel the flavors mature as you breathe them out," Ashley explained. "I like a nice, smokey bourbon, smokey whiskey. I live for that."
And don't think that just because Ashley is a whiskey connoisseur doesn't mean that she's a snob. "Little secret: I drink Fireball all the time, because I like Big Red gum, and it reminds me of Big Red or a jawbreaker or something," Ashley admitted. "So I live for it. I love it." - Reporting by Rachael Roberts
OK, now we really want to party with Ashley.
