Here is the situation: Kentucky Fried Chicken announced today that country music's Reba McEntire plays Colonel Sanders in ad spots beginning this weekend. Yes, starting on January 28, ads featuring the multiple Grammy-winning entertainer will air nationwide to promote KFC’s new Smoky Mountain BBQ fried chicken.
So we watched the spot and sure enough, yes, there's Reba onstage crooning along as a mellifluous Colonel Sanders! And yes, it's Reba is in drag in that bedazzled white suit with signature tie! And it's all set against the backdrop of some kind of slapstick honky-tonk bar scene?
Per Reba in a KFC-issued statement: “I grew up with Kentucky Fried Chicken. It’s part of my story, and I’m so excited to now be part of theirs,” said McEntire. “I’ve held a lot of roles in my life — sort of like the Colonel himself — but this is certainly the most unique one yet.”
That sounds about right.
Obviously the video is trending — because wow. And it gives us some feels. But we're not sure which ones. Amazement? Confusion? A sudden desire to listen to great country albums, if not a sudden craving for fast food? Like, we don't even know.
Watch here — and then see if you can help us figure out what to feel.
