New Cafe Will Serve Al Roker's Favorite Recipes — So Will the Whole Menu Be Keto?
The TODAY Cafe is set to open at Universal Orlando on Mary 16, with Al Roker's favorite recipes on the menu.
TODAY co-anchor Al Roker recently announced he dropped 40 pounds on Keto — and he's an outspoken advocate for the diet, even publicly calling out celeb trainer Jillian Michaels after she slammed it. So what would a restaurant menu look like if Keto-advocate Roker created it? Well, now we know...
Universal Orlando Resort has announced that its new TODAY Cafe is set to open to the public on May 16. Located within Universal Studios, the whole eatery will take its theme inspiration from NBC's morning show — in fact, it's “designed to feel like stepping onto the iconic TODAY show set,” according to a news release.
And yes, Roker helped design the menu — so will the whole place be a Keto-friendly affair, then?
Nope.
Roker told People that the menu will “reflect the spirit of New York,” with items like The Carnegie Platter (an overstuffed sandwich in the style of Manhattan’s now-shuttered institution Carnegie Deli; the Mulberry Street Italian Platter; and the Chinatown Chicken Salad.
That said, Roker made clear the restaurant will have plenty of healthy options — think acai bowls and his “Al’s Avocado Toast” with cherry tomatoes, red onion, artichokes and tomato aioli. When he makes it for himself, Roker told People, he makes it without the bread so that it's Keto friendly.
And he definitely hopes the restaurant will allow people to stay on track with their diets when they visit — instead of using vacation as an excuse to fall way off the wagon.
"You may use it as an excuse — 'Ahh, I’m on vacation. What the heck?’— but then you’re off track and it’s hard to get back on,” he told People. “So my thing is, strive to do as well as you can, and then when you get back home you really bear down.”
