David Foster Admits That He's Felt "A Connection" to Katharine McPhee For 12 Years, But Wait ...

The music mogul divorced Yolanda Hadid in 2017, so this is a little bit awkward.

By Jenny Berg

As you may have heard, David Foster is headed to the altar with Katharine McPhee. And while we're happy for the couple — seriously, they seem super into one another and make one talented pair! — Foster's recent comments left us scratching our heads just a teeny bit. But first, here's a quick refresher on the songwriter's romantic past:

How to Watch

Watch The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills on Peacock and the Bravo App.

Foster has been married four times before, and used to call Yolanda Hadid "wifey." He married The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alum at a 2011 ceremony where — remember this for later — Andrea Bocelli performed. Yolanda and Foster officially divorced in 2017, and by that time, Foster had known the former American Idol contestant for quite some time.

In 2006, Foster appeared on the reality competition to mentor its singers, and that's when he first ran into McPhee. "She didn’t catch my eye on the first day because I was so busy trying to do my job,” Foster told People. “But, the reality is that in the last 12 years I’ve always had a connection with her." OK, so he didn't say he'd been involved with Katharine for 12 years. But still, that timeline made us pause.

Here's when we cringed again. At a recent charity event in Italy, Bocelli (remember him?) and McPhee sang together while Foster accompanied them on the piano. Yes, it was likely a gorgeous serenade — remember when Bocelli sang at Yolanda's private dinner party on RHOBH, making us all swoon?

But, can we talk about this comment the opera star made to Foster? During the performance, Bocelli told Foster: "A few years ago I told you she was the one." Foster responded: "You were right."

Oh, well — it's all romantic, in spite of any awkwardness. And in the meantime, it looks like Yolanda is doing just fine
