Sutton Stracke Responds to “Hurtful” Comments About Her Style
The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills cast member explained why she thinks her fashion “doesn’t translate to a lot of people.”
Perhaps one of Sutton Stracke’s most iconic moments on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills was when she called out Crystal Kung Minkoff for her “ugly leather pants.” (Relive the epic retort in the clip above.) But Sutton has also been known to rock a statement-making look — and therefore has found herself the subject of style critiques as well. In a new Page Six interview, the owner of The SUTTON Concept boutique in West Hollywood opened up about how she handles the criticism.
“At first, it was hurtful when people didn’t seem to understand my fashion choices,” she revealed to Page Six. “But now, I don’t pay any mind to comments and whatnot... I love couture — and couture is all about slow fashion and meticulous detail... It doesn’t translate to a lot of people. People don’t understand it all the time because it’s a little bit different — but I’m a little bit different.”
While people on social media have called for Sutton to “fire [her] stylist,” she has news for them: “I am my stylist. I style myself and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Only because if I don’t love it, then I’m not going to feel comfortable. I don’t like people telling me what to wear — or what to do in general — because I’m an earth sign,” she told the publication. “So I’m grounded and I don’t need anybody to do that for me.”
In fact, Sutton has such a clear vision that she recently launched her own cashmere line, which she dubbed “a huge labor of love.” She explained of her collection of locally produced T-shirts, sweaters, joggers, and dresses ($195 to $1,110): “I had no idea just how hard this was going to be, but I’m always up for a challenge. Now that it’s finally here, I’m so excited and couldn’t be more proud of the line.”
