Elsa's Accident

Marysol opens up about what happened to her mother.

By Marysol Patton

I hope you enjoyed the first episode of Season 3! It’s such a pleasure to be back for my third season of RHOM. By now you know, this year has been bittersweet for me.

This year, I am back as a supporting cast member, in the role of a friend of the Housewives. I am grateful to have been given the opportunity to be a part of RHOM again, because it has kept me very busy and occupied during a difficult time in my life. If I had not had my company to run and the filming of this season, I would have fallen into a horrible depression caused by the personal tragedy that occurred in my family this spring.

A few days before we started filming, I received a call from my mom’s household staff that they had arrived at the house and found her unconscious on the floor of her bedroom. I immediately called 911 and drove over to her home. She was shaking and unable to walk or barely sit up and her eyes were fixated staring up to left. The paramedics carried her down the stairs wrapped in a sheet to the ambulance and she was rushed to the hospital. The doctors informed me that they needed to operate on my mother’s brain immediately to relieve the pressure of blood that was accumulated and causing swelling. The doctors suspected that this occurred from the impact of hitting the floor when she fell. I had to think fast, but cautiously, so I called Alexia, whose own son Frankie suffered brain damage after a severe car accident. I knew Alexia’s brother-in-law was a well-known doctor at the hospital where my mother was admitted, so I asked her to find out if the surgeon who was assigned to my mother’s case was the best option. We did not have time to lose, so Alexia made the call and quickly got back to me giving me the go ahead to let the doctor operate. After the surgery, we were informed by doctors that mom had a long road to recovery ahead of her and would remain in the hospital for months.

As you can imagine, this has been the most painful crisis I have had to live through in my life. I have always been extremely close to my mother and not being able to talk to her was agonizing. It is difficult to describe the hurt and fear that I felt, and how it kept me up many nights crying. I have tried to stay positive, always sending mom light and visualizing her healthy and strong, for now that is the only thing that keeps me going. To shift gears a bit I would like to touch upon the topic of Adriana already being married to Frederic. I personally believe that with or without the marriage certificate, they have always been a family, living together and raising her son under the same roof. In the Latin culture (how I was raised), we are taught that until you have a religious ceremony, you are not considered “truly” married. Considering that  Frederic’s family lives in France and Adriana’s in Brazil, I can understand how she didn’t feel married until everyone was able to come together to witness their wedding ceremony.
