Julia Lemigova Got a Short Haircut to Surprise Martina Navratilova Amid Her Cancer Battle

Amid Martina Navratilova’s cancer battle, Julia Lemigova recently surprised her wife by getting a meaningful new hairdo. 

The Real Housewives of Miami cast member recently told People that she decided to cut her long hair to a bob length as a special surprise for Martina, who shared in January that she had been diagnosed with Stage 1 throat and breast cancers. 

“Knowing Martina, because she’s so sentimental, I think she’s going to cry,” Julia said. “I think, I hope not, but she does cry when she sees black-and-white movies and romantic love stories. She just like ‘happy tears,’ she called it. And she knows I did it a lot because of her.” (You can see Julia’s new hairdo here, here, and here.) 

Julia opened up about the special meaning behind the cut. “Martina, she loved my short hair,” she said. “When we met, I had a very similar style of hair, and my hair was short, and she fell in love with me then. So this was also to surprise her. Martina has on her phone a picture of me when we met, and often she shows it to me. Not relating to the haircut, but she’s saying, ‘Oh my God, I love how you looked then, you look so happy.’” 

“After your wife is diagnosed with two cancers, it really changes your perspective,” she continued. “We all have to be strong for her. There is no time for sitting around and crying. And I wanted my hair to illustrate that I am reconnecting with my, well, sophisticated, strong woman who I am, but also showing that in a way I’m doing it for her. And something that I know for sure will put a smile on her face.” 

Julia turned to David Mallett for the new look. “What it looks like when you leave your hair in the hands of a master!” she captioned one post. “I can’t thank David enough not only for my new haircut but for the beautiful experience. It was just what I needed.”
