Back in December 2022, The Real Housewives of New Jersey daughter shared a behind-the-scenes video of herself getting her hair done at Lina Kidis’ Staten Island salon. In the video, the eldest daughter of Teresa and Joe Giudice revealed that she previously had “hand-tied” hair extensions, which, according to Byrdie.com, are extensions a stylist puts in by “hand-tying” wefts of hair “with a cotton or nylon thread” onto a row of beads, creating more volume and length.

Gia explained at the time that the hand-tied wefts felt “a little bulky on [her] scalp,” leading her to try a different method: tape-in extensions.

Fast-forward to February 20 and Gia is giving an update on how her new tape-ins are feeling after a little bit of much-needed care.

“Got my maintenance done today with tape-in extensions,” the college senior wrote over an Instagram Story of herself at Lina’s salon, putting her fresh waves on display in a cream-colored track suit. “Feeling refreshed.”

Much like hand-tied extensions, after tape-ins are applied, they typically last “on average six weeks,” according to Allure.com, which is why “maintenance” is needed to keep a client like Gia feeling “refreshed.”

Later in the aforementioned video, Gia explained more of her reasoning for switching to tape-in rather than hand-tied extensions.

“I wanted to use tape-ins because they don’t have to use heat while applying the extensions to your hair,” Gia shared. Per Byrdie.com, tape-ins also differ from the hand-tied method by using “medical-grade tape adhesive to ‘sandwich’ pieces of a client’s natural hair in between two pieces of extensions.”

After showing how Lina blended the new extensions with her real hair, Gia noted that she loves the tape-ins because they feel “less bulky” and she “[doesn’t] even feel like they’re there.”

What’s more, the new style looked utterly fabulous as the aspiring lawyer took to the beach in Tulum, Mexico, in early January to celebrate the New Year — and her birthday — with family.

“Feelin 22,” Gia captioned a series of Instagram photos of herself in a light green crochet crop top and matching ankle-length skirt. She held a sparkler for her big day, and her sun-kissed chestnut locks looked long and more luscious than ever for the occasion.
