Love Tequila? Add This South-of-the-Border Spot to Your Bucket List

Make like The Real Housewives of New York City in Mexico. (Salud!)

We already know all the BTS on the stunning, sprawling villa where the The Real Housewives of New York City shacked up in Mexico. (Spoiler alert: The ladies luxuriated at Casa La Vida Dulce, a private resort within the gated, master-planned El Banco community, located in Punta De Mita — read all about it here.)

But now you need to know, too, about the must-see tourist stop for tequila lovers, where the ladies are headed on the episode airing July 26.

They traveled to — where else? — Tequila, Mexico, the town that hosts some of the region's most important tequila houses. And there, they got a much closer look inside the whole process of the spirit's creation during a tour of Casa Sauza.

Intrigued? Tours of the distillery and its vast, historic environs include options to look inside an enormous cellar with 15,000 white oak barrels, and a tasting of one of the most select Sauza tequilas: XA Limited Edition.

There's also a chance to peek inside the one of the oldest distilleries in the region, dating all the way back to 1873 when it was founded by Don Cenobio Sauza.

Or perhaps you'll be most interested to see the private home, built in 1836; the agave fields, taverns and old mansions were declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2006. There's a restaurant located inside the hacienda, so it's a perfect place to stop for some tequila pairings with incredible Mexican food.

Planning a visit for a special occasion? The place can arrange special touches like mariachi music or ballet folklorico performances. For another unforgettable touch: Access the location by flying in a helicopter from Guadalajara or Puerto Vallarta.
