Heather Thomson's Favorite Fashion Week Memories with Diddy
"Even though he never let me sleep, we put on history-making fashion shows together," she says.
Let's take it back to 2000 when The Real Housewives of New York's Heather Thomson worked as Puff Daddy's creative director at his fashion line Sean John. At the time, the rapper/designer and Heather were knee-deep in their own New York Fashion Week prep, but they made it a point to attend Marc Jacobs always buzzed-about show. And when Heather recently spoke to The Lookbook, she gave the backstory on the famous photo (above) of the pair sitting front row.
"With Puffy, not only [was I] his creative director [and] put on his fashion shows with him, but I also attended the shows that he got invited to — and they were numerous," she recalled. "In that particular picture my hair's really short, I had those funky glasses on I got in Tokyo. I believe that was a Marc Jacobs show, and I had not put on my show yet. The fashion shows I attended with him after our runway show was over were always more enjoyable for me."
And she's not exaggerating. While Heather is a Fashion Week expert, having worked with everyone from Diddy, to pop divas Jennifer Lopez and Beyonce, to industry powerhouse Calvin Klein, it's her time spent with the Bad Boy rapper that she holds near and dear to her heart. "I gotta say my favorite Fashion Week memories are with Puffy and doing our runway shows together," she said. "Even though he never let me sleep, we put on history-making fashion shows together. I mean, it wasn't traditional. We had huge LCD screens with videos playing. It was one of the highlights of my over 25-year career. Because it was different from the runway than I had done at Calvin ... it was a whole different animal and we just broke the rules. We wrote new roles. And, you know, we were the ones to watch. It was the hottest ticket in town. They are some of my sweetest memories of Fashion Week."
