Carole Radziwill Reveals the Heartbreaking Dinner Plans She Made with Carolyn Bessette in Their Last Conversation
The Real Housewives of New York City alum is sharing intimate details about her friendship with icon Carolyn Besette-Kennedy, some 20 years after the icon's death.
It's been 20 years since Carole Radziwill lost her closest friends, Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy and John F. Kennedy Junior. In a new essay for DailyMail.com, The Real Housewives of New York City alum is honoring their memory by sharing moving memories about her friendship with the icons — including the dinner plans she made with Bessette during the last conversation they'd ever have.
The 1999 phone call was brief. "We had the luxury, the last time we spoke, of talking about what we might have for dinner Sunday. It was a quick call. John was preparing to take off from a small private airport," Carole wrote. "[My husband] Anthony and I would see them, in their house on the Vineyard where we were staying, in 48 hours. The plan, for July 18, was grilled steaks and peach pie."
Heartbreakingly, those plans would never materialize. On July 16, 1999, the Kennedys' single-engine plane fell into the sea. "Lives, and promise, cut short," Carole wrote. "We just weren't done."
