Braunwyn Windham-Burke has a wonderful home that she and her family moved into sight unseen and a kid-free "love shack" that she and her husband, Sean Burke, escape to when they're looking for a little adult time away from their seven children. But when The Real Housewives of Orange County mom travels with some or all of her brood, she prefers to stay in private homes rather than get a hotel room... or four!

How to Watch

Watch The Real Housewives of Orange County on  Peacock and the Bravo App.

As she explained, searching for a short-term home rental online can net far simpler amenities for kids than a hotel, which can often feel stiff and alienating to little ones.

"Traveling with children is a trip, not a vacation," she told PEOPLE. She added that she seeks out home rentals on Airbnb and VRBO because “they’re better for family living.”

With many trips (including international jaunts) under the family belt, Braunwyn has discovered that the one take-along item she always needs is duct tape.

“Don’t leave home without it,” she advised. “I don’t care if you have kids or not, you need it. I bring it on the airplane so that I can tape the tray table shut. Also, if anything, breaks, like a stroller or a suitcase, duct tape will fix it. If you’re in Hawaii and you get a cut, your bandaid is not going to stay on, but duct tape will! There is literally nothing that duct tape can’t fix. It is my No. 1 item that I bring, aside from my medicine.”
