How Emily Simpson "Finally Learned" to "Have a Healthy Relationship with Food"
"At 43 years old I had to re-evaluate my relationship with food," the RHOC cast member wrote.
For Emily Simpson, taking a hard look at the way she thought about food allowed her to ultimately see positive results in her health journey. "The biggest change I made was learning how to eat. Yes ...at 43 years old I had to re-evaluate my relationship with food and realize that I was a serial grazer," The Real Housewives of Orange County cast member wrote on Instagram. "Having young children, being in my early 40s and wrestling with depression from chronic pain led to a 30 pound weight gain."
While Emily admitted "it’s been a very long journey to health," she is thrilled to see how far she's come. "Now I’m at 24% body fat and I work out 3-4 times a week. I look forward to working out and I enjoy every minute of it," she wrote. "I feel myself getting stronger and more fit each day. I follow [Paulina Stein's] fitness program with coaching as well as use her recipe book for fun and creative meal ideas"
"I finally learned how to have a healthy relationship with food," she continued. "This program has worked for me because it doesn’t teach you what NOT to eat, but teaches you what you should eat. Also the accountability keeps you motivated."
In her post, Emily noted that because a health journey is an ongoing process, it isn't always necessary to make drastic changes right off the bat. "You don’t have to make life altering changes on day 1," she explained. "Remember even very small changes can add up over time to big rewards."
In June, Emily opened up to her Instagram followers about her eating habits, sharing that "Pretzels dipped in Nutella" are her "go-to guilty snack," while her go-to healthy breakfast is a smoothie made from blueberries, strawberries, banana, almond milk, ice, and chocolate protein powder. As for alcoholic beverages, Emily revealed that she has swapped her former favorite, Champagne, for a "skinny spicy margarita."
