Jewel Tankard

Jewel explains that she's trying to get to know the new Junice and shares her feelings about Benji and Brooklyn working together.

on Nov 14, 20130

Bravotv.com: Jewel, what do you think of their differences of opinion between you and your sister Junice?
Jewel: Junice and I have been very close for quite a while. I respect her lifestyle -- to each their own. But I think my lifestyle gets on her nerves because I have always been an over-the-top thinker and dreamer. Those that are around me, I will provoke them to greatness and thinking over-the-top, too. And I think the whole thing is just very extra for her. So now that I know how much she really dislikes that, I'm working on just talking about what she has going on and her feelings about family, work, etc.

Bravotv.com: What did you think of Junice's decision to move? She made a major statement when she said "You are NOT the boss of me." What did you think of her decision to not tell you guys?
Jewel: I think her decision to move and not tell us just makes a statement about her need and desire to break away from the family and to create her own space and identity. I think she feels like she can't really come into her own with us knowing her personal business. I understand being the youngest sister can cause one to feel disrespected and not fully recognized for your own individuality. Of course, it was still very hurtful for the whole family for her not to share. Everytime she's moved before, she always told us. Maybe we will have to get to know the new Junice, and just accept whatever we can get for the sake of the relationship.

Bravotv.com: Benji and Brooklyn butted heads at Brooklyn's hair show. Who do you think was at fault?
Jewel: I'm not quite sure whose fault it was exactly. They both have different stories. But one thing they didn't do was communicate enough about what their expectations of each other were, and what was expected at the actual show. I would have liked to have seen them still respect each other -- and control their negative emotions. They have to learn how to talk it out. This could have been fixed. Nobody died. You are still family.

I guess it is customary for there to be no rehearsal with music for a fashion show, even when requested by the person throwing the fashion show...  If Benji attended the rehearsal and treated his sister like a client, not dismissing her a just a sibling... he would have gotten the music he required at the last minute.  I don't understand how this was not obvious.  Brooklyn was putting together an entire show... her show.  Benji was irresponsible and went into the event being negative ready to tear his sister down likely knowing yet refusing to acknowledge that if he had taken her even more seriously, he would not have been in the predicament he found himself in..  It's a shame that the parents are enabling Benji to not take responsibility for his actions or that, because Brooklyn has been troubled in the past, that she should not be given the benefit of the doubt in this case and allow the facts to present themselves, instead of giving Benji an out.  Benji, who is well-aware of Brooklyn's issues, is taking advantage of the fact that his sister's past behaviors allow for him to remove the burden of responsibility for his ego.  Very convenient for Benji, but disabling for a Brooklyn, who's trying to overcome her past.

Both Benjy and Brooklyn need to move out of the parents home into their own places.  They are both Free loaders.  Benjy knew he did not have a music list prior to attending the event.  Brooklyn is not a good project manager. She has ideas but she does not know how to implement the the ideas.Parents step up and charge the free loaders rent until they move out.

Someone call the Fashion Queens for this lady.

Her hair is always tore up. Those weaves look dehydrated and her edges are a hot mess.

The country ass backward style has GOT TO GO.

She is a hot mess.

spoken in regards to the sins of another's past, that God has washed away from a person, are not dredged back up by you (Junice) in order to insult, ridicule & hurt (Jewel) out of your own petty jealousies & darkness of your heart.....this shall greatly displease the heart of God & it could cost you dearly.

"Seek first the Kingdom of God & all these things shall be given unto you!" The Kingdom of God is many GOOD things and God's heavenly Kingdom is full of beauty & riches.....pearls, diamonds, gold and much more, so having riches & nice things is a God thing & He desires that His children do well. God never said He wants us to be in poverty, but in all things He desires that we prosper. Do we here on earth not desire the very best for our earthly children....how much more does God desire that His children have the very best of what is His & should be given unto us not unto the heathen....we often have not because we ask not & do not understand God's riches are intended for us not just in eternity, but for today, however He is not going to drop in into our laps like welfare children, but He would require that we are trained in good things & work to receive & be the best we can be.

Jewell is a busy body plain and simple. Proverbs 26:17 says, like one who takes a dog by the ears is he who passes by and meddles with strife not belonging to him.

Instead of Jewell worrying about where Junice lives, she needs to figure out how to get Brooklyn OUT of HER house. After all, she did buy two luxury vehicles in one week. She can afford to move out.

I don't feel Junice is jealous of her sister I don't feel she is lazy. She is rather smart because with everything going on in the world sometimes you have to know how to live in your means. If her and her husband have a vision and they know they have to save money then why not downsize, it's called common sense, which a lot of people seem to lack these days. She is tired of her sister running her life, she's grown with a family of her own and not once do I believe she is finding fault in her sisters life. How can. Being a Christian I am very appalled at some of the stuff that comes out of Jewels mouth and it's people like her that keep others away from the church. She's a very materialistic person and that was proven in the first episode when she said if she had to take a vow of poverty should would have never because a Christian. That's just plain sad.

junice hated because she cant see the ivison , she is lazy to me and instead of working with her sister to get to the next level she is like most black folk finding fault in her sister s life style which is based on biblical principle s read eccle 1019 and read what it says about money.

Remagine your words are true and I have not heard anyone say anything about the scripture, I'm the oldest of twelve children - close net family. We lost our mother and father five years ago; but i do not drip into my 3 brothers and 9 sisters business cause mom always said "we have 365 days to take care of your home so that don't give you any time

to take care of any one else home or business! Judge seek not and when the man told Jesus about going to his family

funeral - Jesus told him let the dead buried the dead. Stop dipping in other business unless they ask you!

OMG! Let Juncie blog! Watching the show tonight, I know EXACTLY how she feels! Juncie if you are reading this honey, You do your thang girl and don't let them get in your head. Long as you are not hurting anyone, and you are taking care of your ownself, you don't owe ANYBODY an explaination! There is nothing wrong with being private and having boundaries. And "narcissism" is exactly what I thought before you ever said it!

"Judge not, lest ye be judged." For all of the Christians complaining, and judging this family, please open your Bible to Matthew 7:1, and reread what your Lord, God Almighty requires of us. Do your thing Mrs. Tankard!

What a despicable show. Imagine praying to be a millionaire? Wasting Gods time with such selfishness when there is sickness and true suffering everywhere. What horrible human beings. The formula for a successful life is simple...hard work...find your passion, work hard and success will come. You don't pray for it you work for it.

What kind of Christian says that if he/she had to take a vow of poverty to be saved, he/she wouldn't have been saved??  What kind of message does that send?  Self-serving, materialistic people like you give Christians a bad name.

Im truly TRULY appalled with this show like no other. I tried to be open but on a scale from 1 - 10 it gets a .5 ........As touchy as religion and beliefs are in this country as many people are turned away from faith now a days myself included im shocked that this type of foolery is allowed on TV. By all means do you..... this family already has been obviously but do they every stop to think they are part of the reason others have such negative views about faith. Thankfully, on my journey now i can think independently enough to know that the way the Tankards boast and gloat their riches and over the top lifestyle shouldn't alter my growth. I just know they are TRULY not my taste and im as non-traditional as it gets. I just feel this "preaching" family along with many others like them are opportunists living behind the cover of an all knowing God. Take away the religion and this is just a another dysfunctional family. Money and status rules their world and now its televised to give all the other lost or confused people watching this warped viewpoint on faith and religion. Im sure they give back to the community as many "God Fearing Christians Do" but its just distasteful. a Hugh mess of a show. I personally hope this show gets 1 and ONLY 1 season. Preacher's of LA is WAY better and easier to relate too and actually gives off some sort of positive message. But then again since this show is so controversial it'll get enough ratings to survive. So i hope on the reunion show they can all shed some light on how negatively this show has been received and not brush it off and under the rug. Other than that good job to the producers or whoever pushed this idea out from a ratings point of view its a smart move. but i wont be indulging in this hot mess. I honestly hoped the represented the African American community better.

Jewel, you really need to tone it down.  You are one of the flashest people on television.  Remember you are a pasters wife not a Basketball wife.  Please make sure people undertsand the difference when they see you on tv.

Your children are cool.  Your husband is cool but very very very flashy to be a preacher.  But guess what, he's not the first or last.  Join the millions of flashy preachers.

All this focus on money and material riches is sickening on this show. Whatever happened to teaching SALVATION and to seek first the kingdom of GOD? Furthermore, I think that BRAVO is going out of its' way to help people make fools out of themselves on national television.

Jewel, I really like you.  Yes, you can be a little over the top sometimes, but I am that way as well.  When you want the very best for all those around you, you try to constantly encourage them with words and enthusiam but unfortunately it can make others feel not good enough and they can began to resent your  words and actions.

You are right to try to tone it down with your sister, but she need to also try not to be so judgemental and critical of your ways.  Junice seems almost hostile in her interviews, she should ask Jesus to help her with that.  I love your family and your husband is great to you.

this show had me in disbelief! I will not be supporting this show..their blood is not thicker as far as I can see and why is money and status so important when it comes to serving God..im not a fan ! the only one I do agree with is the sister she is humble and that is  she will be blessed..

Junice is too busy hating Jewel to have a vision.  She is so envious of Jewel she can not see.  Distance should help her see how wrong she is to blame her lack of material things on her sister. I do not understand why their parents have not intervened.

KONTROLFREAKS64

@d.williams.397 You can't be serious with this statement, right? I mean, Junice is a grown woman with her OWN visions and ideas for how she wants to live HER life!  Obviously she doesn't want nor need all of the glitz and glamor that her nosy sister Jewel wants.  So that makes her lazy because she doesn't want to follow her sister's dreams?  I never saw where she finds fault in Jewels riches, or that she's jealous of her in any way.  I see a woman with her own desires who's tired of being bullied, and wants to do her own thing.  What's wrong with that?  After all, it's not as though it's a family business she's refusing to be a part of.  And for the record, the only decisions or goals she should be setting are the ones for her self, and the ones she and her HUSBAND have set for THEMSELVES!!!!!!!!! Wow, what IS it with some people?

So does that same scripture apply to Jewel? I mean what is the Tankard  plan??? She seens to have a problem accepting the fact that her sister does not want to do things her way, so who is really judging whom? Maybe you should reread what your Lord, God Almighty requires of us. Do your thing Mrs. Tankard and Junice!!!!

@d.williams.397 Hey there, minister, you should know that we need to read scripture in context - otherwise, there would be dangerous messages spread as God's word. that section of Ecclesiastes http://biblehub.com/niv/ecclesiastes/10.htm. is written with irony, describing a kingdom that is upside down in god's eyes. Money is NOT the answer - godliness is.

nancydrew70

@TheProvincialAmerican I totally agree. I just watched several back to back episodes and saw no efforts to help others (besides their own family). These people are defined by conspicuous consumption, showing off, and posing. Jewel needs Junice around so Jewel can feel superior to someone she doesn't respect. Ben Tankard needs to get his own house in order, spiritually, before he ministers to others.

@DB70 You're right! I was just using Brooklyn to make a point about Jewell. Living with your parents rent free is how you create freeloaders, and irresponsible adults. You shouldn't always be willing to pay the tab for your adult kids when they can pay their own way. Granted, there are situations where (adult) kids can't afford to pay anything starting out, because they've lost a job and moved in temporarily, but in the case of this family, I think Ben is trying to show us how much of a "high roller" he is, and make up for lost time and it's only causing more problems than he can handle.

Cyrene is still in high school, but a stack of moving boxes need to be delivered to her room soon after graduation.
