Whether or not you're passionate enough about coffee to let it inspire your whole vacation, there are some cups aspirational enough to merit at least a bit of space on your travel itinerary. Consider these bragging-rights-worthy cups of brown gold around the world.
1. New York City
Start with the ;most expensive cup of coffee rin America at Brooklyn's Extraction Lab. Made with rare high-altitude Geisha beans and steamed in a $13,900 Steampunk brewing machine, a normal-sized cup will run you $18.
It wasn't available for long before it landed on the Weekend News on Saturday Night Live:
If rapper 2 Chainz can down a cup of $600-per-pound cat poop-picked Sumatran Kopi Luwak coffee, shouldn't you too? London restaurant and lounge DSKRKT will brew you one for £60 (about $75).
3. Los Angeles
Head to Los Angeles County beach city of Santa Monica to hit up Funnel Mill, a specialist of rare coffees. You can try Kopi Luwak there, or if you're poop averse, you can get acquainted with equally expensive and limited-edition brews like the cafe's favorite, Panama Geisha Esmeralda, an heirloom varietal that costs $35 for a single serving syphon or $75 for a half-pound bag to take home. And occasionally, there's cold brew.
The Panamanian Geisha beans are also a top specialty at Capital Coffee in Tokyo, where you enjoy a cup on the spot or take a quarter pound home for about $35.
5. Various locations
Black Ivory Coffee bills itself as selling the "world's rarest and most exclusive" coffee beans that are "elephant refined" (and we can leave it at that) by rescued elephants at the Golden Triangle Asian Elephant Foundation, which receives a portion of proceeds. A single 35-gram pack sells for $73 on the website, or you can try a cup at resorts such as Taj Exotica Resort & Spa in the Maldives, Four Seasons Resort Chiang Mai in Thailand, or MGM Macau.
