Typical portion sizes in the United States are notoriously huge, so it takes a special kind of eatery to rise above your everyday super-sized dishes around the nation and present something so gigantic, it's worth making a trip for (even just for Instagram-gawking purposes). From coast to coast, we've scoured the nation to find those pizzerias where size really does matter — looking at you New York City's Pizza Barn, Washington, D.C.'s Pizza Mart, Las Vegas' Pin-Up Pizza, Big Mama's and Papa's in Los Angeles, and Nonna's in Chicago!
Behold the biggest pizza in America:
New York City — Super Slice from Pizza Barn
Clocking in at a gut-busting two feet, a Super Slice from Pizza Barn is worth the schlep up to Yonkers — and a bargain at $11, considering it's almost the size of a small child, or, indeed, a full (normal) pie. You can even get it topped with a mountain of mac and cheese, should you wish. Last year, owner Angelo DeLuca told PIX11 News he was looking for a new way to present New York's favorite food. "I was thinking I wanted to do something different. Something bigger," DeLuca said.
Las Vegas — Slice from 30-Inch Pie at Pin-Up Pizza
Everything is over the top in Vegas, and this pizza joint is no exception. Inside the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino, Pin-Up Pizza has a vintage vibe (servers' uniforms are Bettie Page inspired) and serves up the largest slices on the Strip. Pin-Up's 30-inch pies are topped with 26 ounces of mozzarella and sliced up to provide up to 1,400 giant slices a night (they'll cut the slice in two if you ask).
Washington, D.C. — Jumbo Slice from Pizza Mart
A D.C. classic, Pizza Mart may not be the most sophisticated dining spot in the nation's capital, but it is home to the Jumbo Slice. Open until 3 a.m., this spot is popular with a late-night crowd soaking up alcohol with 16 inches of dough and cheese.
Los Angeles — Largest Delivered Pizza from Big Mama's and Papa's
Big Mama’s and Papa’s holds the Guinness World Record for the "largest delivered pizza in the world" (24-hour notice required). The L.A.-based pizza franchise's square Giant Sicilian measures a whopping 54 by 54 inches and is said to feed 50 to 70 hungry people.
Chicago — World's Largest Pizza Slice from Nonna's
Whatever your opinion of Chicago-style pizza, you have to stop in to Nonna's to tackle what they call "the world's largest pizza slice." At 63 square inches, each slice weighs in at around a pound and a half. If you can eat two within 30 minutes, you get a free T-shirt.
