Top Chef's Adrienne Wright Went Into Labor at Work: “8 PM on the Line, Feeling Weird...”
Bravo's Top Chef Season 16 finalist Adrienne Wright shared her unexpectedly exciting birth story, which began in the Deuxave restaurant kitchen.
Adrienne Wright is a mom! The Bravo’s Top Chef Season 16 top-five Cheftestant welcomed son Dylan Thomas Wright at 6:16 pm on May 23 — within a week of her fellow competitor Sara Bradley also becoming a first-time mom.
But — given that Chef Adrienne is a mere mortal after all — her labor and delivery didn't go exactly as she might have dreamed it up. Specifically, she was at work, in the kitchen, when her labor began... though she wasn't sure at first that it was happening.
She shared her entire birth story (well, a sanitized version, as one does) on Instagram, taking followers through her unexpected, exciting timeline.
"May 22nd: finishing touches on our nursery, then off to my second to last day of work at @deuxave," she captioned a sweet picture of herself with sizable bump in her nursery.
Showing some context of the kitchen at work — including a tribute to her that her colleagues had pinned to the fridge — she then continued, "8 PM on the line @deuxave. All of a sudden feeling really weird — but it passes."
Turns out she had the "1st contraction! (But I didn't know it yet.)"
After work, she went out to eat in Chinatown with her husband — no big deal, right? "I tell Brad this baby's feeling really low... I might have to wear a belly band to work tomorrow," she wrote.
Spoiler alert: You can probably see where this is going...
"5 AM my water breaks — time to pack a bag!"
So 12 hours after her labor began in the kitchen at work, Chef Adrienne arrived at the hospital.... where she delivered her precious, healthy baby right around time for dinner at Deuxave. What a fitting arrival!
Huge congrats to Chef Adrienne and her family!
