Ali Wong’s New Movie Shouts out “Stupid, Beautiful, Talented” Padma Lakshmi — So How Does Top Chef’s Host Feel About It?
Bravo's Top Chef judge Padma Lakshmi weighed in on having her "name and likeness" used in the new flick Always Be My Maybe.
We hope this doesn't give too much away, but in the new Ali Wong flick Always Be My Maybe, there is one character who could be described as a "home wrecker" — and that character looks an awful lot like Bravo's Top Chef judge Padma Lakshmi.
The cookbook author recently shared a clip from the movie on her Instagram feed. In the scene, Wong is scanning her ex's Facebook page when she spots photos of him gallivanting across the globe with a rather gorgeous new girlfriend. "Is that Padma Lakshmi?" Wong's character Sasha muses aloud. Then, gritting her teeth, she says, "Stupid, beautiful, talented Padma Lakshmi. (Spoiler alert: It is Padma, indeed.)
So, how does Padma herself feel about this shout-out? "A year ago a producer asked if I would lend my name and likeness to an unnamed Ali Wong project. She’s one of my favorite comedians so I was like 'Of course!!' Little did I know it was to be a homewrecker in [Always be My Maybe]," she wrote.
Padma then offered an impromptu movie review: "This is such a sweet movie and such a win for Asians everywhere. Love you and rooting for you [Ali Wong.]"
