Meet the Real Shelter Dogs of Pennsylvania (P.S. They Need Homes!)

Pittsburgh is a magical place — they put French fries on sandwiches AND have adorable dogs.

By Stacy Lenz

There have long been rumors of a Real Housewives franchise coming to Pennsylvania, but our hometown housewife dreams always fell flat. Today’s Real Shelter Dogs right that wrong courtesy of Furkid Rescue, located in South Park, PA, right outside of Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh is a magical place; not only do they put French fries on sandwiches but they also have adorable dogs.

Furkid Rescue is not a traditional shelter, but instead is a network of loving foster homes, focused on caring and training homeless pets until they find their forever home. Originally started as a pit bull rescue, they now take in every type of dog, often taking in pups that other rescues won’t. They even rescue cats now!

And now meet your Real Shelter Dogs, complete with opening credits-worthy taglines!

I’m not about the drama, but I am 100% about the cuddles. Holla!” - Goose

Goose was rescued when he was on death row at a high-kill facility in Memphis. He is almost six months of age and is looking for a family to call his own. Goose is quite the little cuddle-bug.

When life gives you stuffed toys, put mine in a bowl!” - Aya/Mama

Mama was rescued from death row along with her six puppies in Memphis. All six of her pups were adopted, and now it is Mama's time to find her family! Mama is approximately a year-and-a-half old. She is still puppy-like and loves to play with her toys and go for walks! She still has lots of energy, so no couch potatoes please! Her ideal home is as an only pet! Dog selective, and definitely no kitties!

I have a new leash on life and nothing can stop me now!” - Carmella

Carmella is about a year old. She came to Furkid from Puerto Rico when she was 10 weeks old. She was being sold on the side of the road, which is illegal in Puerto Rico. When she first arrived she was extremely scared and didn’t know how to be a real dog. It took her some time, but now she is best pals with her foster siblings and loves to play with them.

“Fool me once, shame on me. Fool me twice, and I’ll still try to chase after the tennis ball you pretended to throw.” - Phoebe

She’s a bit shy with strangers, but once she gets to know you, she never leaves your side. She is perfectly house-trained and crate-trained! She is very laid-back but she also likes to have fun; chasing a tennis ball and playing tug-of war are her favorite activities. Phoebe just wants someone to love her and cuddle her!

I’m basically just the pup next door… if your neighbor adopts me.” - Trixie

Trixie was rescued from a high-kill facility when she was on death row. She is a typical six-month-old puppy who loves everyone she meets! She is currently fostered with three other dogs and is well-socialized. She loves all the dogs she meets.

“I may be blind, but I can see you need a new best friend.” - Bocelli

Bocelli and his sister, Idgie, were rescued from rural Mississippi when they were living outside in a cage. Both had a genetic condition, which left Bocelli blind at birth, and Idgie needing to have one eye removed. Neither has any long-term side effects, nor take any medications. Bocelli may be blind, but you would never know it. He loves to play with the other puppies and navigates around his foster home very well. He is very smart and picks up on things just as quickly as a seeing dog would. He is very affectionate and loves to be held; despite the fact he gets heavier by the week!
