Devastating news for Maria Menounos: Her beloved 17-year-old dog, Baby, passed away on Monday night. The sweet mutt had been diagnosed with pancreatitis and kidney failure right before her 16th birthday, and at the time, she was given mere weeks to live. But much like her momma, Baby held on strong and had an amazing turnaround over the past year-plus. "She fought until the last moment," Maria said in an Instagram post.
The dog had been with Maria for almost two decades, since before her career took off. "She’s been w/us from our days in a one bedroom apt when buying razors was tough & going to Taco Bell on a fri night was a treat," Maria reminisced. But she was particularly touched that Baby was able to be by her side after her seven-hour surgery to remove a golf ball-sized brain tumor. "[S]he got us through the best & worst of times...thank you for the laughs, the kisses(yours were always my favorite) and for fighting to stick around long enough for me to heal from surgery & Marry Your daddy."
Maria was out of town working the Super Bowl when Baby passed away, but thankfully her husband Keven Undergaro was there to care for the precious pup and help her safely cross the rainbow bridge.
Maria and Keven have two other dogs: a German shepherd rescue named Maximus, and another senior named Benjamin. Although they are sure to provide plenty of love and comfort, nothing can replace the love Maria found in Baby. "She was my first dog & a dream come true as I dreamed of having her my whole life...This dog inspired me so much with her spirit & her fight."
RIP Baby, and our condolences to Maria and Keven.
