Kristin Chenoweth is living every Below Deck fan's dream. She joined Kate Chastain on the latest episode of Bravo's podcast After Deck with Kate Chastain to talk about memorable moments from the show, the secrets of Kate's boat hair, and who the winners and losers of Season 5 so far. Since late September, Kate has been recapping Season 5 of Below Deck on After Deck. In true Kate fashion, listeners are never sure what she'll reveal each episode. However, something podcast fans have come to count on is the show's weekly awards, the Yachtie and Dinghy of the Week. Kate and her guests share their picks for the crew member who went above and beyond the rest as well as the one who missed the boat. Kristin shared her picks for Yachtie and Dinghy of the Season, or at least up to Episode 11.
"In a light hearted way," Kristin prefaced her pick for Dinghy. "Because I do think I'd probably really like her, the blonde." That's right, Kristin Chenoweth lovingly chose Jennifer Howell as her pick for the Dinghy of the Season so far. "I just saw somebody wanting so badly to succeed and be good," Kristin explained. "And she did listen and grow, but she was so funny when she went to wear the costumes, and she went for it. But she struggled, you know?"
Kate lovingly agreed, "She is a dinghy." And admitted she has a soft spot for Jen. "I think that I was probably more lenient with her," Kate told to Kristin on the podcast. And though Kate's awarded Jen with Dinghy of the Week a few weeks in a row on the podcast, Kate has a deep admiration and respect for the green stew. "I love her," Kate even clapped back at those who have been critical of Jen's performance throughout the recent charter season. "Anybody that has any opinions about Jen's work ethic or whether she is a good yachtie, what I have to say to them is, go raise a child for eight years and then come back to me and tell me what you think of Jen."
"You know what I'd be if I was on Below Deck with you?" Kristin added. "I'd be Jen."
Who gets Kristin's pick for Yachtie of the Season? "You're always going to win, every season" Miss Chenoweth told Valor's chief stew. She does have a close second for the award, however. "This might not be what people would imagine," she said. Nico Scholly's story of loss and his continued perseverance stood out to her. "I think he made some mistakes, but I felt for him and I just thought, 'You know, he's there, doing it.'"
"Just the fact that he was there, I think you're right, should earn him Yachtie of the Season," Kate echoed.
