Until you have an apartment, condo or home of your own, you don’t realize just how expensive furniture—and decorating multiple rooms—can be. After exiting college, I bounced from rental to rental in Washington, D.C., Chicago and Manhattan, picking up new hand-me-down chairs, bed, stools and TVs along the way. And when I finally landed in my own home, I quickly realized that this hodgepodge of furniture didn’t a) match or b) resemble anything close to my preferred aesthetic.
