Call in Sick Today—You Have to See This Fashion Flick Now
Step aside, Devil Wears Prada.
Guys, it’s the first Monday in May. And in the fashion world, that’s known as The First Monday in May. (And don’t you forget it.) As we speak, Anna Wintour is busily putting the final touches on the most epic night on any fashion-lover’s calendar. It's technically called "The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute Gala," but everyone who's anyone calls it the “Met Ball.”
We’ll be on the event like Zayn on Gigi today, so stay with us. But first, do you need a little crash course? If you’re not familiar with the glitzy, celebrity-studded bash, you hereby have our permission to duck out of work and into a dark theater to see The First Monday in May. Like, now.
The new, Andrew-Rossi-directed doc tracks the behind-the-scenes action that went into creating last year’s Met Bal. It’s the one Rihanna wore this to, if that helps ring a bell.
You’ll see the whip-smart, sunglasses-wearing force that is Anna Wintour. If there’s a shade of flowers she’s not keen on for the ball, she’ll let you know. And, naturally, she’s right.
You’ll see Jennifer Lawrence, Kim Kardashian, and even Larry David making their grand entrances to the bash. You’ll once again feel faint over the sight of Rihanna’s massive train. (Seriously. You'll need smelling salts, not popcorn, for this one.)
But the flick’s real star is Andrew Bolton, the museum’s new curator in charge of the Costume Institute. As he interviews John Galliano about his inspiration and futzes endlessly with an Alexander McQueen gown, Bolton’s sheer respect for the art of couture will move you to tears. Or maybe that's just us? One thing's for sure: After you’ve seen the doc, you’ll be even more psyched to check out the looks that parade down the Met’s red carpet tonight. But first, watch the trailer:
