Googly-eyed over your date? Slow down, beer goggles are real.

Three-quarters of women (74%) questioned in a new survey said booze had made a man they had not previously found cute more attractive. Shocking.

Most of the women (86%) surveyed also said they were more likely to sleep with a guy on a first date if alcohol was involved. Meanwhile almost all the men surveyed (92%) said that they found that drinking alcohol made the prospect of sex more likely on a date. 

Yes, it’s called “beer goggles,” and the official definition is the “phenomenon in which one’s consumption of alcohol makes physically unattractive persons appear beautiful.”

Many men surveyed (84%) also said that alcohol later changed their first impressions of their dates and made them like them more. 

Two-thirds of the men surveyed (64%) said they have had sex with beer goggles on. Not good that most of that group (76%) didn’t call the woman for a second date. 

Beer goggles seem to fade in adulthood, with the most popular time for BG is while you are in college. 

As for drinking on a first date, most of the women and men surveyed agreed that it was a good way to break the ice and that 68% of women and 82% of men like to drink on a first date.

Illicit Encounters spokesman Christian Grant said that while “dating is a stressful business,” people want to make a good impression fast. 

“As the booze flows, inevitably the beer goggles come on and dates that might have finished with a quick peck on the cheek end up going far further,” he says. “That is the experience of millions of people who are dating online including lots of members of Illicit Encounters, you end up kissing a few ugly ducklings before meeting your swan. Beer goggle sex may not lead to true love most of the time, but it can often be a lot of fun.”

The survey included 1,000 adults.
