By Patricia Cunningham

You know what can be kind of boring to a kid? Mealtime. Yep, even though you have arrayed the table in the colors of the rainbow, stressed yourself out hitting all the right food groups and made a theatrical display of exaggerating your delight in eating snap peas, you’re still not getting results. Well, don’t drown your sorrows in a glass of Sancerre (just yet) because I’ve got some help for you.

First, let me ask, what’s the difference between a regular old plate of vegetables and a plate of vegetables cut out into bunny and bear shapes and outfitted with googly eyes? Answer: The dish with the googly eyes has a much higher probability of getting eaten—or at least looked at curiously, sniffed and possibly sampled. It’s true, getting kids to eat healthy or try new things or even to finish their plates can be really challenging. The trick is to make it fun. I’ve rounded up some of the most amazing stuff out there to help make mealtime exciting and enjoyable for everyone (even you, mom). Here’s to trying! Bon appétit!
