Carole Radziwill Doesn't Wear Mascara—Here's Why

But what are her true feelings on the man bun?

By Jenny Berg

Carole Radziwill has fond memories of SPiN. It is, after all, where she played ping-pong on one of her first dates with Adam Kenworthy; the rest, of course, is (very romantic) history. Fittingly, Carole was the host of a dating event held at the Chicago location of SPiN last week. And though we didn't get any pointers on her impressive backhand, we did ask her to spill all her beauty tips. (Who can blame us—have you seen the woman?)  Here's what she had to say on perfume, lashes, and le man bun.

We're here at a dating event. So, what fashion advice do you have for people getting dressed for a date?

Personally, I like alternative kinds of guys. I like a look that's a little dressed-down, although a suit is nice once in a while. I think for a girl, guys love a girl in jeans. It's like the girlfriend outfit: jeans and a cute button-down. It's cute, it's sexy, but it's not in your face.

Totally. Let's chat beauty! Is there a good beauty tip you've picked up from another housewife?

I keep my own counsel when it comes to beauty tips, because I read a lot about that. One of my closest girlfriends started a website called Violet Grey, and she's a leading expert in beauty and cosmetics. It's a great website and it's a great business, and so I get my tips from her more than the housewives. I give the tips!

Are there any products that are always in your bag?

I like La Prairie's Skin Caviar. It's nearly as  expensive as caviar, so I use it very sparingly. But it's just a foundation with sunscreen that gives you perfect, dewy skin. I'm really into just dewy skin—clean, good skin. And lashes, of course.

What's your go-to mascara?

I don't wear mascara because I always wear lashes!

Do you have a summer scent that you love?

I always wear Egyptian musk oil. I used to get it from the guys that sell incense on the subway, but they all got run out. So now I buy it on 3rd avenue in the 30s, at these perfumeries. And, it's unisex, and it smells yummy. It's the perfect smell. People come up to me and say that I smell like fresh laundry.

Speaking of unisex, you and Adam both have great hair. Do you guys share any products?

(Laughs) No, no, not at all. He doesn't care too much about his hair. But he had long hair when I first met him, and he cut it off a couple of months ago. I was devestated. I liked his long hair. I like a man bun. On him, it looked really good! It wasn't like a top knot, it was a man bun. But, he likes the shorter hair. He uses Arrojo products, and he loves them. But we don't share. I've got my own thing and he's got his own thing.

Last question: Who's your personal style icon?

Oh my gosh, my mother-in-law, Lee Radziwill. She's in her 80s now and she's still perfection. She knows exactly what to wear, and when to wear it. She's totally age appropriate, and I've never seen that woman look anything less than chic. Even when she's hanging around in her apartment. She's amazing.
