Ellen Pompeo Says Women Age More Gracefully Than Men
The Grey's Anatomy star also revealed cost-free ways to get gorgeous.
People’s Choice Awards winner and Grey’s Anatomy star Ellen Pompeo hosted a party in West Hollywood recently to celebrate her collaboration with Philosophy and its latest Uplifting Miracle Worker line. The line—for which Ellen is the newly minted face—actually does work miracles, in a way: part of its proceeds benefit Aviva, the Hollywood charity that supports women with mental health issues. “[Philosophy] has made a commitment not only to women’s beauty inside, but outside,” the actress shared with The Lookbook.
The brand and the actress are also working together to promote a new reality—that middle age can be the coolest time of your life—and are inviting women to remove the anti in anti-aging and replace it with cool. (There's already a growing conversation on social media—check out the tag #CoolAgers.) According to Ellen: “There are a lot of glass ceilings that we need to break. I’m lucky to have this platform because of the show.”
The theory is that with aging comes empowerment. “We need to empower each other as women and the fact that a major brand like this is willing to make a statement and a commitment to not only women’s beauty outside, but inside, is something that we don’t see every day,” Ellen said.
“Encouragement and strength and empowerment starts here, inside, so it was easy for me to come on and be a part of this. This is an issue that we need to address.” And that goes for women in particular. “Men want us to believe that they get better with age, but it’s us who get better with age," the actress said. "I know that I’m ten times the woman that I was 10 years ago."
So, how do women achieve #CoolAger status? “You just have to feel good about yourself,” Ellen says. Some of the biggest mistakes that she sees women making in terms of age prevention are judging themselves harshly, and doing too much cosmetic work to their faces. Pompeo’s advice: “Do the work on the inside, and then you will glow. We have to be there for each other. There is no better effort. I hope we can all keep an eye on each other and help support each other and lift each other up whenever we can. If there is anything that this world needs now, it's more compassion and kindness.”
Of course, great skincare doesn't hurt. The actress cites Philosophy's Miracle in a Jar and Micro Recovery Peel as her hero products. And the Uplifting line combines cool-lift technology and cryotherapy (a face-freezing element) to help harness the effects of looking younger. So the real trick, it seems, is to keep your heart warm and your skin cool.
