Is This the Most Comfortable Heel Ever? 28,000 People Seem to Think So

A heel you can wear all day. Yes, really.

By Courtney Thompson

Being short in stature, I would love nothing more than to wear heels all day, every day. I’d wear them to school drop-off, to grab a coffee, up and down the grocery store aisles, and I’d even don them while crossing my ankles on top of my desk while taking an important call. I’d look really sophisticated and glamorous, and oh yeah—much taller (Read: skinnier!).

But as any female worth her salt knows, heels = pain. They equal chafed skin, blisters, aching arches and toes that feel like they might literally fall off of your foot forever. Yes, there are some miracle products to help with the blisters, and there are of course sole inserts that could alleviate the arch pain—but really, am I going to go those lengths to look a bit taller and slimmer at the grocery store? Nope. For date night, sure, but not for commuting to work or running errands on the weekend, because to reiterate, heels = OUCH.

Or at least they did, until Everlane dropped a veritable shoe bomb on the fashion world back in April with the launch of their Day Heel. The brand sums up the shoe’s glory like this: “An Italian-made heel that could lift and lengthen, without killing our feet. A heel we could actually wear. All. Damn. Day.”

What makes it so great? For one, a cushioned insole for extra support. Also, super soft leather (and now suede) and a rounded toe. Third, a sturdy block heel that won't leave you teetering. And lastly, an elasticized back that cups the ankle—and keeps it in place—without chafing or cutting into the skin.

Upon debuting, the shoe sold out immediately and reeled in a waitlist of 28,000 people, all of whom were—like me—clamoring to get their hands on a pretty heel they could actually wear all day. Yesterday the brand answered their prayers (and mine) with another restock of the original shoe, with the addition of a few new fall-friendly few new colors in suede (including black, cognac, citron and a rich wine hue). Priced at $145, the shoes are already sold out in some sizes and are expected to be gone—completely gone!—within a few days. So hurry up kids, because if we want to wear heels to the grocery store this fall, we need to act fast.
