Lucy Liu Reveals Which of Her Costars Has the Best Shoe Collection

Plus, how working on Charlie's Angels made her love high heels.

By Wendy Rose Gould

If you’ve seen any photographs of Lucy Liu recently, you might have noticed a slick pair of heels upon her feet. Turns out, the Elementary actress actually helped design “The Lucy” shoes herself— a “life-long dream,” she told The Lookbook—as part of a collaboration with shoe designer Bruno Magli. In addition to helping design that specific shoe, Lucy also serves as the face of Magli’s Fall 2016 campaign. “I have always been a shoe girl,” she tells us. “There's an intricate artistry that goes along with designing and crafting shoes. It’s wearable art.”

Apart from the cool, artsy look of Lucy's kicks, the shoes serve up a little soul with their impressive soles. “Aside from the fact that designing a shoe is one of my life-long dreams, I was so thrilled to be given the opportunity to partner with UNICEF for this project," Lucy said. "It's important to me that the work I do has a positive impact on our global communities, so making sure part of the proceeds from The Lucy go towards helping UNICEF's efforts was a major priority for me.”

To celebrate the recent collab, we asked Lucy to participate in a round of quickfire questions all related to the subject of the day: shoes. Here's what she had to say about when she first learned to walk in heels, which co-star of hers has had the most fabulous shoe collection, and more.

You can have five, and only five, pairs of shoes in your closet: what are they?

It's too hard to pick just five pairs, but I love these designers: Dries von Noten, Alaia, Nicholas Kirkwood, Stuart Weitzman, Alexander Wang, and of course, Bruno Magli.

When did you first learn to walk in heels?

Walking in heels and feeling confident walking in them are two different things. Walking- I'd probably say when I was around 21 years old. The confidence came when I was filming Charlie’s Angels and had to run, fight, do high-kicks, and execute a number of other stunts in them. That's when wearing heels became more of a fun activity.

What's the most recent pair you wore from your collection with Bruno?

I was a guest on The Talk in LA a couple of weeks ago, and I wore one of my favorites from my collection—the red Lucy shoe.

Which of your costars has had the most fabulous shoe collection?

Demi Moore has fantastic taste—her shoe closet is impressive.

What's your go-to pedicure color?

I'm generally seasonal with my color choices for toe polish. In the fall I like something rich and dark—like gunmetal or a deep red. Anything that feels warm and lustrous.

What's the first pair of shoes you splurged on?

My first serious pair of shoes were these gorgeous Christian Louboutins. Who doesn't love that red-bottomed shoe he made so famous?!

Which city in the world has the best shoe shops?

Well I may be biased, but New York City of course!  Paris, London, and Munich are also on the top of my list.
