Vogue’s Next Documentary Should Take Place in a Bathroom
They can call it “Leaked Footage.”
This week, we’ve logged more hours than we feel comfortable admitting peeping photos from the Met Ball’s red carpet. But Vogue photographer Cass Bird knew where to get the best snaps of all on Monday night—and it was in the midst of toilet stalls. Listen; don’t judge it till you’ve seen it. A loo looks more glamorous than a Mediterranean beach when Joan Smalls and her sparkles enter the equation.
Bird, who also posted up in the ladies’ room at the 2015 ball, realized what fascinating footage emerges when glamorous gowns collide with fluorescent lights. This year, she caught candid moments that expose the humanity of our favorite super-humans.
See Lady Gaga futzing with the train of Kate Hudson’s gown, Saorise Ronan sweetly embracing Juno Temple, and a silver-haired Ciara reaching for a paper towel. The photos are so evocative, so behind-the-scenes feeling, we cannot. Stop. Staring. Would this not be a great basis for a mini Vogue documentary? If nothing else, we need prints of these for our bathroom walls.
