For a very long time, I avoided buying a gym bag. Why? Well, for one, they were universally masculine and bulky. I also wanted steer clear of being saddled with two bags every day as I headed to the office—because there was no way I was going to ditch my work tote, and lugging around an extra bag just for my gym gear seemed like a cumbersome decision. So, as a result, I crammed my cycling shoes, and headband, and sports bra, and water bottle, and leggings into my purse—or, once I arrived at the gym, my work clothes and heels—and the result was pure chaos. One time, while I was trying to fish out my credit card from the bottom of my bag at the grocery store, I inadvertently pulled out a bra instead. Mortifying.
Ultimately I succumbed to the gym bag, and I’ve never looked back. The manly duffels of years past have made way for a new crop of super cute and stylish duffels and totes from major and budget brands alike. And these bags are made to perform, with pockets galore, straps to hold yoga mats, waterproof bags for sweat-drenched clothes, and more. Some of them are even roomy (and cute!) enough to function as your sole bag for the day. Mind-blowing news, we know.
