Solange Wore 100 Feet of Braided Hair on SNL

Honestly, we've kind of forgotten about Benedict Cumberbatch.

By Jenny Berg

Solange Knowles made her first Saturday Night Live appearance on November 5. And though  Benedict Cumberbatch was host, it was the musical guest who mesmerized us with—both with her performance and that headpiece.

The hand-spun halo, Fader reported, was made by the Chicago-based hair artist Shani Crowe. Shani told the publication that the piece took 50 hours to complete, and the creation comprised 100 feet of braided hair. Since Solange wore a custom crystal dress by Erickson Beamon, she told Shani that she wanted her headpiece have a similar reflective quality. So, Shani strung on thousands of Swarovski beads.

Shani took to Instagram on Sunday to beautifully express how much the experience meant to her. "Man oh man. Love is real and this is proof. It's been a pleasure to work with someone with such magic and integrity. Not to mention the whole team of outstanding artists, musicians, and all around good people. 40+ hours of beading and braiding well spent. I have so many feelings! Infinite Gratitude for such Divine synergy!" But, the goodness just kept on coming.

Solagne's big sis Beyonce told Shani that she's a big fan of her work, and Shani took it like any human would. "Is this my life? so many feelings," she wrote on social, next to a picture of Queen Bey admiring her work. We're getting chills from here.
