The Angelina Jolie Leg Was Everywhere at the American Music Awards
No dress was complete without a stratospheric slit.
A music-awards show is no place to play if safe on the red carpet. But this year, the American Music Awards seemed disappointingly tame. Where was Lady Gaga's horse? Could no one bother to wear a giant, sparkling octopus dress? No couple thought it a good idea to wear matching, head-to-toe denim?
So, maybe there wasn't one moment that's bound to go down in AMAs history. But, we did derive a good amount of amusement from a pose that was all over the red carpet: the very look made famous by Angelina Jolie at the 2012 Oscars. Take a quick refresher and look at the OG what, this old leg? look, then see who brought it back with a vengeance tonight. Apart from all the girls of Fifth Harmony, of course, who modeled the pose with aplomb, above.
Co-host Gigi Hadid had several looks this evening. But when she first took to the stage, she wore a dazzling red Versace gown that showed off the body part of the evening.
Chrissy Teigen showed a little more than leg in this daring, deeply slit dress by Yousef Akbar. (There was a collective whoa at our viewing party—how about yours?)
There's much to discuss about Dani Thorne's look. But, let's cut straight to the chase: Leg alert!
Karlie Kloss showed us all her supermodel stems in asymmetrical Versace.
And Gigi's ex-stepsisters, Erin and Sara Foster, also got the memo. The ladies worked with stylist Jamie Schneider Mizrahi to pull together the looks; Sara wore J. Mendel, and Erin dressed in Prabal Gurung.
Beba Rexha gave the pose her best go in vintage Yves Saint Laurent. Nope, no further comment.
Tinashe, who interviewed arriving stars for E!, let her leg jut out of her off-the-shoulder Michael Costello gown.
And, posing pro Milla Jovovich served up some leg in her starry Elie Saab gown. Moral of this story? Slits are here to stay.
