This is How Ralph Lauren—and Speedo—Responded to Ryan Lochte's Antics

Apparently, making up stories is out this season.

By Jenny Berg

As you may have heard, Olympic medalist Ryan Lochte exhibited some shady behavior at the Rio Olympics. (He made up a story about being held up at gunpoint. That.) Fans and brands alike were appalled by his behavior, and Speedo and Ralph Lauren both took swift action to end their partnerships with the athlete.

Speedo had an endorsement deal with Ryan for some 10 years, but issued the following statement yesterday: "Speedo USA today announces the decision to end its sponsorship of Ryan Lochte... while we have enjoyed a winning relationship with Ryan for over a decade and he has been an important member of the Speedo team, we cannot condone behavior that is counter to the values this brand has long stood for."

But the, er, friendly dismissals didn't end there. Ralph Lauren also severed ties with the swimmer: The brand issued a statement explaining that it will not renew its contract with Ryan.
