Is it us, or is everyone jumping on the blonde buzz cut bandwagon—and looking fearlessly flawless doing it? Caitlin Richardson, the owner and stylist behind LA’s all-blonde color salon Blonde/Blond, embraces the latest tress trend with open arms.
“I personally love this haircut on the right person,” says the Seattle native. “At one point in the ’90s I shaved my head, as I think most female teens in the grunge scene did.” Here’s who’s already pulling off the white-hot look—plus some thoughts from Caitlin for those considering a similar platinum-punk style.
When you have Cara’s bone structure, you can get away with pretty much anything—including a playfully-pink pixie. The model’s choppy ‘do didn’t last long before she shed her pastel locks for her role in the upcoming tearjerker Life in a Year. “One requirement for this haircut looking good is that you must have a good face,” says Caitlin. Obviously, Cara can rock this look based on her eyebrows alone.
“I’m sure we all—well, some of us—can remember Sinéad O’Connor’s look, or the lead singer of The Cranberries’ shaved head,” observes Caitlin. Katy’s minimalist mane is a stylish tribute and a reminder that the ’90s are coming back in a big way (Hello, old friend).Side note: We can only hope that Guy Fieri appreciates Perry’s sense of humor as much as we do.
Dreadlocks, blonde braids, and now a shaved head… Zoëis officially our hair hero. So when the It girl teased her hair transformation on Insta, we knew we were in for a tress treat. Considering Zoë’s fearless style, it’s no wonder that she can pull off a platinum buzz. To pull this off, you must have a great sense of style,” says Caitlin, quipping, “Don’t try to wear this haircut if most of your wardrobe is from [mall brands].”
“There’s no such thing as bad press,” notes Caitlin, “and while no one is accusing Kristen, Zoë, Katy, or Cara for being out of date, we can say that they've had some pretty heavy days as far as fame and popularity before this point.” K-Stew’s daring ‘do for the upcoming movie Underwater got everyone buzzing, and the punk hairstyle shows off the star’s pretty features.
In January, the ingenue shared that she shaved her head for her role for the upcoming film Where Hands Touch, and it wasn’t long after that the actress and activist showcased a blonde buzz.
“Maintaining this is actually pretty simple,” observes Caitlin, noting that the haircut comes first, followed by bleaching (or re-bleaching). The biggest challenge? Growing out, of course. “It's not about keeping this haircut,” observes Caitlin. “Ever try to grow out some bangs?” Whether Amandla chooses to keep this style or grow it out, we’re confident she’ll continue to slay.
