Um, This Designer Just Accused Amy Schumer Of "Trying To Push The FAT Agenda"
Yikes times one million.
Amy Schumer is the cover girl for InStyle’s May issue, and she appears in the image wearing a somewhat impractical—but very sexy—Ralph Lauren bathing suit. She looks like a sassy, sexy siren in this little gif, no?
Well, some people apparently disagree. In this instance, a bathing suit designer named Dana Duggan trolled Amy hardcore, using the handle @southshoreswimwear. The Huffington Post reports that Dana helpfully (ahem) commented on InStyle’s Instagram post: “Come on now! You could not find anyone better for this cover? Not everyone should be in a swimsuit.”
Hmm, that’s a very strange position to take when you actually sell swimwear. Seems like the more people buying your product the better! The designer's account has since been either deleted or set to private—presumably because Amy’s fans are rabid. (Same.) After several social media users leapt to the defense of both the magazineand its cover star, Dana responded that no one could suppress her “freedom of speech.” Then, she said that Amy looked “like a pig,” for good measure. And, there's more troll-ery!
In a comment to The Huffington Post, Dana doubled down further, saying: “I appreciate the free press. It’s called Freedom of Speech. I can have my opinion and you can have yours. I’m tired of the media and publications trying to push the FAT agenda. It’s not healthy and it’s not pretty. What is wrong with featuring healthy and fit cover models?”
Since you're asking, Dana: Nothing at all! That's why Amy Schumer was on the cover of a magazine. She has a very normal and lovely body many women would love to have, and also access to any number of bathing suits. Schumer posted a bunch of bikini shots to her Instagram stories page on Saturday night and, according to TooFab, responded to the controversy by simply writing, “ I feel great. No haters can f with my baseline.”
Amy wins yet another round against body shamers everywhere.
