Cruel and Unusual Punishments

Trace talks Casa Vega margaritas and how to keep Jeff happy.

By Trace Lehnhoff

In order to keep Jeff happy, he asks that we stay ten steps ahead of him. Now that’s no easy feat, but as an employee needing job security, it comes with the title – well that and keeping Jeff entertained. So as a design associate at JLD, I try my hardest to bring my best performance every day. The great thing about Jeff is that he usually knows exactly what he wants and is very thorough, so when he spouts off five things he needs you to handle, you write them down on the closest thing your arm can reach and take care of it. Keeping him entertained and making him laugh is a job that Sarah has mastered, and I think that’s one of the reasons their relationship works so well.

Punishments are still heavily enforced at the office. Jeff likes to get creative, and when he finds a way to completely humiliate us after we make a big mistake, he rides that train as long as possible. His favorite is when he dresses us up to make us look ridiculous but fortunately for me, I haven't had to wear the smock as a punishment - I wish Sarah could say the same.

The lunch at Casa Vega is AMAZING. Two words: chunky guacamole. And the lobster enchiladas? Those are my favorite hands down. Casa Vega might be my favorite project solely because of those enchiladas. And the blood-orange margaritas? I mean I could go on for hours…

Changes are happening at Jeff Lewis Design. They just happen to be good, bad and ugly.
