Jennifer Welch Reveals the Interior Design Tips You Need to Know
Take some sage advice from the Sweet Home pro when it comes time to decorate your home.
With 20 years of design work under her belt, Jennifer Welch knows more than a few tricks of the trade. So when the Sweet Home design phenom recently stopped by Home and Design to chat, we asked her to reveal some of her top rules of thumb, and like any nice Oklahoman, she was more than happy to oblige. (Tune in to Sweet Home on Fridays at 10/9c!)
First and foremost, she advised that when it comes to trends, the best approach is doing everything in moderation. “My go-to interior design tips that everyone should know: Save the trends for top pillows, art, things that are very easily replaced,” she said. “Really busy tiles are really in right now for the floor, maybe put those in a powder bathroom, a smaller space so it can easily be changed out later. But you don’t want to do your big master bathroom in something too trendy.”
Another major design tip from Jennifer: Try out your paint colors before you apply them to your home, no matter how insane you may drive your friends and/or life partner with a million only slightly varying paint samples. “Invest in a sample board before paying the painter to paint your entire house,” Jennifer advised. “Get a paint brush and go put your paint on in the room that you’re going to have painted, because inevitably it will change from the paint store to your home.” It's a little extra work, but it's much better than learning the hard way that neon green is not going to work in your family room.
