Barneys Creative Ambassador Simon Doonan Shares the Key to Success in Fashion
After years of dressing Barneys' storefront window displays, Simon Doonan has some advice to share.
Ever wondered what talent and personality lies behind the famous crowd-attracting Barneys New York window displays? That would be none other than the legendary Simon Doonan. For years Doonan, who currently serves as Barneys' creative ambassador, has been known for his intricate and fashion-forward window designs. He even had the honor of creating holiday décor for the Obama family in 2009. To learn more about the man behind the window, Bluprint (formerly known as Craftsy) has a new video series called Spark, which chronicles a day in the life of the artist and how he came to be.
In the episode, he reveals exactly what it takes for him to turn passions into actions. Quirky, artistic, and somewhat silly, the designer views the world through a lens of positivity and finds inspiration from both high-end fashion and fabric he’s found in the (gasp) trash.
To what does Doonan credit his overall success? “If you want to stay loose and creative, the key is not to grow up. Keep your child side fully intact. So I’m looking for inspiration everywhere and I’m also looking for what’s happening in the culture,” he says in the clip below.
To learn more about Simon’s inspiration, dealing with negative feedback on his work, and tackling each project with a free mind, be sure to check him out on Spark!
