Forget about brow brushes and Beautyblenders for a moment. The most important tool in a pro MUA’s kit arguably isn’t a tool at all. This under-appreciated weapon? A good makeup mirror. More specifically, a really, really good makeup mirror.

If you’ve ever attempted to do your makeup under subway-car fluorescents on your morning commute, you already know just how much lighting and a clear reflection can make or break the final effect. The likely result? In your desperate attempt to counterbalance the harsh bulbs that blast your flaws into focus, you end up with a face caked with far too much of everything in your makeup bag.
