Christie Brinkley's Daughter Sailor Posed Nude for an Important Reason

An aspiring model could do worse than to have Christie Brinkley's genes. And indeed, Sailor Brinkley Cook gets it from her mama. The 19-year-old is already making waves as one of IMG's fresh faces, but her latest shoot is bound to stop traffic.
The fresh-faced beauty has appeared in Sports Illustrated before with her model mom and her sister Alexa Ray Joel. But for that shoot, Brinkley Cook was wearing swimwear. For Sports Illustrated Swimsuit's 2018 edition, however, the stunner will wear precisely ... nothing.
As part of the "In Her Own Words" project, the young model stripped off all her clothing to expose words written on her skin in body paint. The words — which include Strong, Lover, Artist, and Optimist — describe "what I see myself as," Sailor said in an online video that explains the project. She continued: "It was really special to get to be a part of this, and to express myself in a very raw, uncensored way."
Christie Brinkley didn't join her daughter in this particular shoot, but she has been reminiscing lately about posing for SI back in the day. On February 7, the icon posted a throwback snap that showed herself in a see-through white swimsuit. As for the beauty look, well, Brinkley devised that herself. All throwback-bangs giggles aside, the "In Her Own Words" project does have a serious mission that's all about empowerment. The publication describes the platform as one "that allows the voice, the strength and the passion of these women to be expressed in the rawest form … on the naked body … with all the artistic and creative control left to them."
In an interview with Vanity Fair, SI editor M.J. Day described how important it was that the models for the project choose the words they wanted written on their bodies. They chose, she said: "powerful words, positive words that represent them and their beliefs and their passions and their messaging."
In addition to Sailor, the platform features models Paulina Porizkova, 52, and Robyn Lawley, 28. For Porizkova, participating in the nude shoot was an opportunity to embrace her body. "I wanted to say that I’m not ashamed of my body and you shouldn’t be ashamed of your body, no matter what age you are," the model said. "We all have our own truths."
As for Lawley, "In Her Own Words" tapped into her maternal instincts: "My daughter is growing up in this world right now and I want her to love who she is because it is so important. If she ever came to me and said, 'I don’t feel comfortable in my body,' I don’t know what I would do. I’d die on the inside. We are women and we are human. We have stretch marks. We have rolls. We have cellulite. That’s all part of our bodies. We become so obsessed with our exterior message; we give no thoughts to what’s in our heads. I just want all those girls out there to know they are so beautiful and so special."
