The Love Match Atlanta Matchmakers Share Their Best Dating Advice

Shae Primus declared in the May 8 episode of Love Match Atlanta, “Everybody wants love. I believe everybody deserves love.” But, as many people have discovered, finding a soul mate is no small feat. Luckily, five of Atlanta’s most sought-after matchmakers — Shea, Kelli FisherTana GilmoreMing Clark, and Joseph Dixon — have revealed their approaches for getting their clients to look and feel their best when it comes to courting.

How to Watch

As viewers saw in the premiere episode, Shea ensures her Middle Class Matchmaker clients are in a good headspace before they are set up with a potential partner. “All of my clients go to dating coaches [and] they go see a therapist to determine if they are relationship-ready,” Shae said.

Once a client is officially ready to start dating, The Matchmaking Duo’s Kelli and Tana start the process with a shopping trip. In the May 8 episode, the ladies had a “pre-date coaching” session with their client Rae, which included picking out a new outfit for her upcoming dinner outing. As Tana explained in an episode interview, “We always do an image consultation because people are visual.”

In terms of making a “special first impression" on a date, Ming knows just how to do that. The Color Blind International matchmaker suggested in the May 29 episode to swap out “dull clothes” for pieces that are “exciting” or different. (As shown in the episode, Ming picked out a burgundy suit, pink button-down shirt, and tan belt for her client to wear on his first date.) Additionally, Ming advises her clients to steer clear of “plain” clothing and instead wear an outfit that will “pop,” such as bold colors and fitted silhouettes. Her theory: “Sometimes when you jazz up people, they get a new attitude, new confidence.”

Still, the best advice is to “be yourself,” as Joseph says in the clip above. ”Truth be told, the person that you want to find you can’t find you if you’re being someone else… Be authentic, be true to yourself.”
