'90s Hair Accessories Are Back — And Will Make You Wish You Never Tossed Your Scrunchies
We can't believe we're saying this either but ... butterfly clips are back.
My first scrunchie sighting happened around two months ago. I was ordering my morning latte when I noticed one plopped atop my barista's head. A few days later, I watched a fellow hot yoga classmate throw her hair back with a blue one. I chalked the first two glimpses up as coincidences until I arrived to work one day to see my deskmate — a certifiable trendsetter — rocking one on casual Friday. "What is happening?" I thought to myself. The last scrunchie I owned since 1998 is the one I use to pull my hair back while I wash my face, and even that hasn't seen the light outside of my bathroom. Were scrunchies ... back??? And even worse, why wasn't I physically repulsed by this sudden shift in trends? What would be next to reemerge from the depths of pre-millenium fashions??? (Cue fannypacks).
Maybe it's the nostalgic reminder of primary school picture days; maybe it's my own repressed desire to look like an extra in Clueless, but I think I've become the newest member of scrunchies anonymous.
What's more, the throwback accessories don't stop there. From headbands and pom poms to barettes and butterfly clips, '90s-inspired baubles are undeniably en vogue. Looking to time travel your tresses? Check out the below for a look that's anything but dated.
