10 Stylish Portable Speakers That Look as Good as They Sound
Because you are an adult. And, like us, you don’t understand why most portable speakers look like kids’ toys.
Let’s be honest, unless you are an audiophile, you probably can’t tell much of a difference between most portable speakers. But that doesn’t mean that you don’t want — or deserve — the best.
The portable speakers listed below are all consistently rated best of the best. We want to spare you the nerdy tech talk so you’re just going to have to trust us on this one. But, what sets them even further apart from other portable speakers in the same league is that these are the prettiest. Yes, we are that vain. And yes, it really is that simple. This is going to be a highly-visible, heavily-used gadget. And, we’re betting that something that looks like a Transformer probably won’t blend in very well with your décor or lifestyle. That’s why we decided to hold a pseudo beauty pageant among the top-of-the-line portable speakers. Here are the winners.
JBL Flip 4
This is the speaker I have heard the most raves about (even from some music-industry friends). It is also the most emulated in terms of design. It boasts 12 hours of playtime and is completely waterproof, which means you can pretty much take it anywhere. At home, you can link it with any JBL product with “connect+” for surround-sound action. If you are one of the few people who actually like Siri, you can also access her through this device.
B&O BeoPlay A1
Bang & Olufsen has long been known as the fancy-pants, “ooh-it’s-European” brand of superior speakers. This speaker’s aluminum casing makes it pretty durable. And the smooth, bump-less design sure is attractive.
UE Roll 2
I’ve gone camping and beaching with its predecessor and I can tell you, the UE Roll is a tough cookie. It has a built-in bungee cord so that you can hang or attach it to almost anything and comes with its own personal floaty so you can even bring it into the pool. It’s also cute as a button.
Vava Voom 22
It really doesn’t get more non-offensive looking than this. The fabric covering gives the gadget an added warmth. The Vava is also one of the louder speakers out there so it’s a good bet if you need something with extra oomph.
Marshall Kilburn
Ever wish you were part of the band? The world-famous amplifier maker just made it easier for you to pretend. Like an amp, you twist bass and treble knobs to tailor the audio to your liking.
Harman Kardon Onyx Studio 4
This is a nice speaker to move around the house — the angle and lack of waterproofing make it not as out-of-house-friendly as some of its smaller, cylindrical counterparts. But, we love how it looks like a real home stereo system and it can be paired with another speaker to deliver superior surround sound.
Archeer 25W
Made of bamboo and canvas, there’s no doubt that this speaker looks the most high-end of the bunch. It’s also got the best bass.
Sony XB40
The electronic empire does not disappoint with its take on the portable speaker. The sound is super crisp. And there is an “extra bass” function and built-in LED light show for all those raves you throw in your living room. The tagline for this speaker is, “in bass we glow.” Enough said?
Sonos One
Unlike a lot of other Alexa-compatible speakers, this one works with non-Amazon streaming services like Spotify, Apple Music, and good-old internet radio. Also unlike other Alexa-compatible speakers, this one actually produces quality sound!
Bose SoundLink Revolve
Notice the round design? Music blasts from all sides of this thing. Which means you can mosey about a room and get consistent, quality coverage. We actually didn’t realize what a big deal this was until we tried it.
