Lance Bass Loses the Brady Bunch House to An Unexpected Buyer (UPDATED)

UPDATE (Aug. 7, 5:10 pm) This real-estate saga is dramatic enough for television! After announcing he had the winning bid on The Brady Bunch home earlier this week on Twitter, it turns out that Lance Bass lost the property to an even higher offer from a network that we now know is HGTV.

While it's unclear which program will be tackling the home (rumors point to Property Brothers), David Zaslav, CEO of HGTV's parent company Discovery Inc., broke the news today on an earnings call. “One of our projects for HGTV will speak to those Brady Bunch fans on the call," he said, according to Deadline. "You may have heard that the house from the iconic series was recently on the market in California. I'm excited to share that HGTV is the winning bidder and will restore the Brady Bunch home to its 1970s glory as only HGTV can. More detail to come over the next few months but we'll bring all the resources to bear to tell safe, fun stories about this beloved piece of American TV history."

While Bass had a "heavy heart" about the way things panned out a couple of days ago, he Tweeted today that he would "be pretty upset if it were anyone else." Turns out the former boy bander is a good sport after all!

Here’s a story … about Lance Bass. Come on, you know you’re all singing along with me, right?? Right. Well, there actually is a story here and it involves the iconic Brady Bunch family home that opened and closed every episode of the show. A huge tourist attraction in Los Angeles, the house is for sale for the first time in 45 years ... and Lisa Vanderpump’s bestie Lance Bass wants it badly.

"I'm obviously obsessed with The Brady Bunch. I mean, I grew up watching that show. Reruns! Reruns," he recently said while co-hosting the Big Brother after-show Off the Block. "I'm going to go look at it, because I want to buy this house." 

Last purchased in 1973 for $61,000, the Studio City home is now on the market for a whopping $1.88 million. While that price isn’t all that expensive for the Los Angeles market, it is costly considering the home only has two bedrooms and features a lot of the original mid-century details. Wood-paneled walls? Check. Rock wall fireplace? Check. Intercom system? Check.

But I guess that’s part of the charm, and Lance isn’t the only one who wants in on the Brady action. "I've got to fight, like, 1,000 other people, because now, unfortunately, everyone's talked about it. So, it's no secret," he said. "And this is the first time it's been on the market in, like, 50 years." That’s right, folks, the secret is out!

As for what the former N’Synch-er would do with the property? Well he wants what we all want — to recreate the home’s original vibe. "I'm going to turn it into the TV house, because you know it doesn't have a second floor and all that stuff, but I'm going to go back to the original, original house," he said. Whether Bobby, Cindy, Jan and Marcia, Marcia, Marcia would come back for a reunion party is still to be determined, but take a look at the home (and all those vintage accents!) below.
