Breaking Down Fact and Fiction in Brody Jenner and Kaitlynn Carter’s “Relationship”
The Hills: New Beginnings stars have called it quits after seven years together.
Brody Jenner has called it quits with Kaitlynn Carter, his partner of seven years, and the split has revealed something that was previously under wraps: The couple was never legally married in the United States.
Yup, a marriage license was never obtained in America, a source tattled to Us Weekly.
“Brody Jenner and Kaitlynn Carter have decided to amicably separate,” rep Scott Newman told the publication in a statement. “They love and respect one another, and know that this is the best decision for their relationship moving forward.” Carter has moved out of their shared home in Malibu, which Brody was seen defending from the Woolsey Fire in the most recent episode of The Hills: New Beginnings.
While promoting the show in June, Jenner told Us Weekly that filming "made us closer if anything, for sure. The first year [of marriage] … I feel like we’ve been married for longer. We’ve been together almost six years now, so, yeah, it wasn’t that big of a change. We lived together for six years, and we still live together. Everything’s been great.” He added that the first year of being married wasn't "hard at all."
He also admitted in the same interview that they didn't have "baby fever" as a couple.
“We’re at a point in our lives now that we’re not opposed to having kids but we’re not necessarily really trying to have children right now," he said. “I think if we do, all of a sudden or accidentally, and it happens, we will be very excited and ready for it but we’re not in a rush I would say.”
“I’m not surprised,” Jenner's former friend and Hills co-star Spencer Pratt opined Saturday on his podcast, which is called Make Speidi Famous Again. “I feel like I said it — maybe it hasn’t aired yet — but that he almost was like a hostage. It felt like he was trying to tell me, ‘Get me out. Get me out.'”
Jenner and Carter were "married" last summer in a ceremony in Bali last summer. His father, Caitlyn Jenner, decided not to attend at the very last minute.
“Not having my dad at the wedding, it was a bummer," he admitted in an early episode of The Hills: New Beginnings. “Honestly, it really did hurt. I would have loved to have had her there, but she had better things to do, apparently.”
